Palm Islands consists of the three artificial islands that are built on the southern coast of
Dubai, which is one of the major cities in the United Arab Emirates. The three islands include
Deira islands, Palm Jumeirah Island, and Palm Jebel Ali, and they are said to be some of the
most ambitious projects that have ever been initiated in the world. Every island was designed to
provide leisure, residential, and even entertainment zones, and surprisingly, they will add about
56 km of private beaches once completed to the great city of Dubai. Sheikh Mohamed bin
Rashid Al Maktoum who is the prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, as well as the Emir
of Dubai, is believed to be the organizer for various enormous projects which are widely
believed to improve tourism sector and enlarge Dubai’s coastline (Nassar et al., 2014). Sheikh
Mohamed -who makes everything that he wants to happen- thought that these islands
complemented by other unique structures such as the world’s biggest hotel, the Burj al Arab, he
can make Dubai a luxury and holiday destination that everyone would want to visit. He
envisioned a time when Dubai would be receiving about 15 million tourists in a year as the city
currently hosts nearly 5 million tourists per year.

world due to its unique design. Reports further indicate that the other two islands have been
completed due to the financial crises in 2008. It is said that although land reclamation was
completely done, there has been no other form of development that is supposed to take place in
the near future, particularly for Palm Jebel Ali (Mitchell, 2016). On the other hand, initial plans
for palm Deira show that it was supposed to be relatively more prominent than palm Jumeirah,
more specifically eight times bigger, but following the financial crises of 2008, nothing had been
done with some believing that the size would be reconsidered and be reduced significantly.
Remarkably, not like any other mega-scale construction, the foundations of this island
were made from several millions of tons of blasted rock, which was obtained from the
neighboring Hajar Mountains instead of the usual concrete slabs. The upper part of this world’s
largest island was formed by several millions of tons of sand that was dug up from the seafloor.
Architects have alluded that the amount of sand and rock that was utilized in the construction of
these islands could comfortably build about a 2-meter wide wall, which would strangely
circumscribe the entire globe approximately three times. The Palm Jumeirah, which is the only
island that has been completed of the three, took six years only, and the mega-project costs
around $12 billion, and it was mainly financed from the income obtained from petroleum. This
structure was developed by Nakheel Real Estate Company, and it was later owned by the Dubai
government. The construction of Palm Jumeirah was carefully monitored by the Global
positioning system (GPS), which was placed at the height of close to 676 km in the space to
ensure that it accurately resembled the palm shape (Stephenson, 2014). Another unique
technique employed to ensure that soil particles were made denser to survive any form of
construction on it was Vibro-compaction.
Moreover, the structure consists of a trunk, spine, and 17 fronds and other crescentshaped structures. Several apartments, hotels, and other retail facilities are located on the trunk
while the long fronds have been lined with villas. The crescent host a number of hotels and
resorts.

in Dubai, which meant that the richest city in the world might not make dollars in the near future

from this sector to support its ever-growing economy. The structure was planned to host worldclass hotels, other amenities, upscale services and also increased stretch of non-public beaches,

about different aspects of the island. Existing data provides reliable data such as the cost of the
project, information about the materials that are used to construct the island as any other relevant
data regarding the project. A questionnaire survey is another data collection technique that will
help gather a lot of information about the island. Various target groups will be identified, and
questionnaires with the same information handed out to them. The respondents will answer
multiple questions about the project, and which will be later compared for analysis. Interviewing
will also be used since it is proven to be a reliable source of data. One can deal flexibly with the
target groups interviewed and obtain more information. An evaluator gets first-hand data that is
unfiltered from the respondents. Moreover, the use of focus group discussions will be useful in
acquiring crucial data by having participants discuss a particular theme about the project
exclusively. Asking open-ended questions to the respondents will make them discuss and give
their opinions about numerous features and issues surrounding the project.
