NTC 302 University of Pheonix W2 Cloud Migration Security Presentation In Week 1, you discussed GIG, Inc.’s benefits and concerns with moving to the cloud. In Week 2, you created a high-level diagram of a system using built-in AWS that provided reliability, availability, and continuity across the migrated environment. In Week 3, you chose a database and created a diagram that visualized the chosen system and implementation steps. Last week, you created a spreadsheet that covered each level and provided a summary of the structures that explained the security benefits.

This week, compile all your work from previous weeks and integrate it into your migration plan in a cohesive manner. Additional material about the transition may be required. The plan will be presented to the CEO, CFO, and CTO and should have a professional construction.

CLOUD MIGRATION

According to Shakya (2019), Cloud migration is the process of transferring digital
business into the cloud. The process involves movement of applications, IT processes and data
from one data center to another. Cloud migration requires advance work and a lot of preparation
just like moving from small office to a large office but at the end of it all the process leads to
greater flexibility and cost saving and thus worth all the efforts. There are benefits and
challenges while migrating the digital business into the cloud.
Cost reduction is one of the benefits. The cloud providers carter for the upgrades and
maintenance of IT operations and hence firms that move their digital business to the cloud
greatly reduce the amount spent on IT operation. In addition, cloud computing (Shakya, 2019).
In addition, cloud computing eliminates the need for software, onsite servers and staff and this
reduces the IT budget. It also saves the hardware utility and facilities expenses needed by
traditional computing by eliminating the company’s need to purchase equipment.
Cloud computing aids disaster recovery. Storing documents and systems on the cloud
offers a reliable safeguard in case of `an emergence. Natural and manmade disaster can
incapacitate important IT functions shut off power and cause damage to the equipment. Cloud
migration increases flexibility whereby users (customers and employees can work from
anywhere. This enables a company to expand into new territories, increase workers mobility and
provide their services to international audiences (Sarmah, 2019). This is very important
particularly in an era when workers desires flexibility in their work environment and schedules.

The high-level design options of cloud computing which are IaaS, PaaS and SaaS have
critical benefits to an organization. In IaaS cloud computing, data is managed and provided by
external provider (Singh, Sharma, Kumar & Yadav, 2016). It improves the company’s ability to
scale its solutions because it is virtualized. It also minimizes hardware maintenance cost and time
and improves flexibility because the hardware is managed externally and the IaaS systems can be
accessed remotely. The system reduces downtime because it depends on numerous data centers
and servers and if a certain hardware resource fails, others are ready to continue the slack.
PaaS allows a committed space to create and test applications like webpages. Its benefits
include, reduced costs as it allows users to rent the needed infrastructures they subscribe for. It
eradicates skills barrier since companies don’t have to hire specialists for to develop their
applications but instead can develop them through a web browser (Singh, Sharma, Kumar &
Yadav, 2016). It also increases collaborations since many developers from different places can
work together on the same project.
SaaS (cloud software) is a means for delivering software applications over the internet
via the cloud. Its benefit includes eradicating initial costs associated with software
implementation since it is normally subscription based (Singh, Sharma, Kumar & Yadav, 2016).
It offers flexibility because one can easily access applications at any location through an internet
connection. It safeguards the data since using software systems that are cloud connected
eradicates the vulnerability of keeping files to local devices. Lastly, the system allows a user to
terminate his or her contract when they no longer require the software. (stop using, stop paying).
As much as cloud migration has so many benefits, it’s also associated with potential
challenges. Availability and security are the major concerns about depending on cloud-oriented
services. System susceptibilities, ignorance and negligence from employees, Distributed-Denial-

of-service attacks, insufficient backups and loss of data, and cloud computing services that are
shared; are some of the security challenges. Openness of the cloud systems causes engineering,
social and phishing threats because a malicious user can access logging information and easily
break into the system since it is available from all locations (Lynch, 2016).
Cloud migration leads to loss of control of a service to the vender. It does not give
assurance that the features used today will have the same price tomorrow. The vendor can
overcharge and if the company’s clients are relying on that service, it might be forced to pay.
Accessing services and exporting company’s data may be limited where the company is unable
to make the payments (Calyptix, 2016).
In conclusion, cloud computing is a rapidly changing area that will surely play
progressively basic role for libraries, nonprofit, charities and their IT systems. Technological
changes mean that companies have to constantly assess their cloud solutions. As a result, a
current challenge facing cloud computing may be addressed six months from today and thus it
may inconvenience a current user.

AWS Cloud Adoption Framework enables organizations to transition and adopt cloud
services successfully. This is facilitated by best practices, procedures, and guidance offered by
the framework, which help in creating a comprehensive approach towards cloud computing.
Moreover, the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework facilitates the realization of corporate benefits
from cloud adoption, and it is associated with a low level of risk (Baron et al., 2016). Therefore,
while migrating to cloud services, there are vital aspects that ought to be considered in AWS.
These factors are described in the following sections.
Aspects of a resilient architecture in AWS
A Well-designed Framework is essential in developing a resilient, reliable, efficient, and
reliable infrastructure for cloud-based applications. Consequently, when designing AWS
technology solutions, there are important aspects that must be considered by cloud architects so
that design a system that meets the organizational requirements and expectations. Being in a
position to integrate all aspects of a resilient architecture in AWS results in effective and reliable
systems. The basic aspects of AWS are cost optimization, security, operational excellence,
performance efficiency, and efficiency (van Vliet, Paganelli & Geurtsen, 2013).

Performance Efficiency
It is important to design a system that can efficiently utilize available computing
resources to be able to meet system expectations and requirements. Performance efficiency
design principles include frequent experimentation, Mechanical sympathy, and the use of
serverless architectures.

Operational excellence
Operational excellence entails the capacity to operate and evaluate systems to achieve
business worth and to be in a position to advance the business process and practices constantly.
Operational excellence design principles may include explaining the documentation, constantly
improve operations procedures, failure anticipation, and learning from past operational failures.
Therefore, it is important to understand both customer and business needs.

Cost Optimization
While designing the AWS application system, it is vital to eliminated unnecessary costs,
which can be made possible through budgeting. Cost Optimization design principles include
using managed service and applications to minimize costs related ownership, use a conceptual
model while designing the systems, and evaluating the overall productivity of the systems.
Therefore, using only the most suitable and important resources for the anticipated system
enhance cost saving.

Security
Security is achieved through risk mitigation strategies that ensure business systems,
information and data is protected from both external and internal threats. There are several
important security design principles while implementing the AWS application. They include
implanting security in all layers of an application, use the resilient basis of identity, Permit
traceability, and data protection. Therefore, it is important to identify security threats and
determine best practices for responding to security incidents.

Reliability
While designing an AWS application system, it is vital to consider the reliability of the
system, which can be achieved by designing a system that is capable of recovering from
disruption and mitigate disruptions. The reliability design principle includes automatic failure
recovery, assessing recovery procedures, and scaling the system horizontally to increase system
availability. A reliable system, thus, should be able to detect a failure and recover automatically.
Reliable and resilient storage components to meet an organization’s requirements

Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3)
Amazon S3 provides information and data security, reliability, scalability, and
performance efficiency. It enables organizations of all sizes, from small to large organizations, to
store any size of data. Also, it offers high-security levels to data and information for a wide range
do use cases such as mobile applications, enterprise applications, and websites (“Amazon Web
Services (AWS) – Cloud Computing Services,” 2020). The simple Amazon S3 features support
efficient data management and configuration controls that enable an organization to meet its
requirements and expectations.

Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS)
Amazon Elastic File System provides simple and manageable AWS Cloud services onprem resources and Linux-based workloads. It makes it possible to expand organizational
systems without disrupting the existing systems. Moreover, Amazon EFS proved parallel and
common access to Amazon EC2 instances, thus supporting high levels of aggregate throughput
the applications. It supports data storage across several Availability Zones, thus achieve a high
level of durability and availability (“Amazon Web Services (AWS) – Cloud Computing
Services,” 2020). Moreover, Amazon EFS a wide range of use cases, for instance, database
backups, application development, big data analytics, and web serving.

Amazon Elastic Block Store
Amazon EBS provides reliability, durability, and availability through automatic
duplication of Each Amazon EBS with enterprise workloads. Also, it is possible to minimize
costs because you only need to pay according to the size of the data you need to store.
Use cases that demonstrate the purpose of AWS availability zones
AWS resources are located in data center facilities that are highly available. The data
centers are located in various locations, which are grouped as regions and Availability Zones to
increase reliability and scalability.
Availability Zones reside within AWS regions. One
availability zone can be located in multiple data centers. Since each Availability Zone has a
different data center, Availability Zone is designed to mitigate failures other Availability Zones,
thus providing provides reliability, durability, and availability (Vohra, 2017). Availability Zones
within the same AWS Region provide low-latency network connectivity to each other, and they
are cost-effective.
The AWS Architecture Framework
Therefore, based on the above information, the following AWS architecture framework,
cloud-based enterprise application can be formulated.
