Switzerland Currency
The Swiss franc is the currency of Switzerland with the abbreviation of CHF in the forex market.
The abbreviation comes from the Latin name “Confoederatio Helvatica” and the “F” appropriately
represents “franc”. This currency was recognized worldwide in the late spring of 1850. The Swiss franc
was first priced on par with the French franc in 1850 but switched to be pegged to the price of silver
between 1865 and 1920. In 2000 the Swiss franc was priced with gold and reached a point where it was
priced higher than the US dollar. This currency is considered extremely stable because it is a politically
neutral country and has a zero inflation policy it has followed for a long time. In 2011 Switzerland
pegged their currency at 1.20 against the Euro in order to save the economy. However, that peg was
removed and the currency took a free-fall that took out many investor firms (Wearden 2011). Because
of large criticism the Swiss National Bank decided to return to “non-interventionism” as far as currencies
go (Chen 2020).
Trading Worth
The Swiss franc is viewed as a safe-haven currency because of the stability it has. It is worth day
trading because it has high volume against the euro and semi-high volume with the Dollar, Yen, and the
Pound. Also, the Swiss franc is in a low interest economy so investors borrow with the currency to make
large asset purchases (Chen 2020). Using this currency to lower interest risk is and using it to be as close
to a store of value within the forex market is common for investors.

Local Markets
Switzerland has 3 main economic sectors called “Landwirtschaft” (agriculture), Industry, and
“Dienstleistungen” (services). The countries GDP is heavily reliant on the servicing industry. Over 73% of
the national GDP is composed of servicing provided, approximately a fourth of the GDP comes from
industry, and less than 1% comes from the countries agriculture (Switzerland Economy 2020). The
servicing industry is comprised mostly of financial services from banks within the country. That is why
many wealthy individuals and companies often choose to open accounts in the country. The industry
sector produces metals, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and electronics. The financial expertise of the
country bodes well for forex trading and currency exchange. The current status of the franc being a safe
haven currency is very helpful for world trade.
Conclusion
Switzerland is an economically stable country that provides reliable currency to invest in.
Businesses that look to Switzerland can expect low interest rates and an abundance of banking services
to be available. The Swiss franc is a currency that has high volume when traded against certain currency
but does not have volatile movement that could be risky. Loaning with Swiss franc allows companies to
purchase large assets with low interest rates. The servicing industry dominates the economy showing
that they are a strong country financially with highly skilled labor force (Switzerland 2020).
