The research outline is an abbreviated version of the components of your paper that indicates the order in which information in your paper will be presented. You can think of it as a “road map” as to how you will lay out an issue that you have identified as important to you, and continue along until you arrive at the conclusions that you will reach at the end of paper.  Your outline should contain at a minimum the following components:

  2.   Statement of the Problem
  3. Methodology
  4. Type of Research
  5. Respondents
  6. Data Collection Instrument/Dataset

  2. Null Hypothesis

 

Two statistical hypotheses are formulated for any statistical test. The null hypothesis is the hypothesis that a researcher wants to disprove or reject. The research or alternative hypothesis is the opposite of the null hypothesis and is the hypothesis that the researcher want to prove. For instance, if we wanted to test the hypothesis that a particular drug worked better than another drug, the null hypothesis would be: drug 1 = drug 2 which states that there was no difference between the drugs. The alternative hypothesis would be: drug 1 ? drug 2 which states that there is a difference between the drugs. The research (alternative) and null hypotheses are mutually exclusive which means that they cannot occur at the same time.
