Why I Chose to Attend Towson University
Towson University is a premier public university located near Baltimore in Maryland. After completing my high school course, I attained high scores that left me with a wide variety of universities to choose for my higher education. All the universities looked attractive and it’s quite a task for me to make the best choice. Therefore, I made a list of the specifications that were of priority to me, and which would help me puzzle out the selection process. These included safety and security, modest learning environment, modern and equipped library, availability of housing facilities.
Safety and Security
A campus should be the safest place for students to study, relax, and socialize. Towson University has prioritized security and safety of students and staff members within the university grounds. The security procedures are often reviewed to match the prevailing security concerns, ensuring maximum protection of students and their property while in session. Examples of security measures include a twenty-four hour safe ride for students’ transportation within campus grounds. This is coupled with a walking security escort in areas that are inaccessible to the car.
In aIDition, all university buildings are accessible with the help of swipe and key cards, which are only available to students. This system ensures that no strangers can access the university buildings, thus exposing danger to the students. Moreover, the university has invested in online emergency alert messages that sent real-time warning messages to students and staff in case of emergency. Therefore, with reference to safety and security, Towson University was the best place for me.
Library and other Research Amenities
Towson University has a large academic library with adequate reading space and current reading material. Research is eased at the library with the use of the cook library catalog that offers quick search for academic materials and saves time that would otherwise be wasted while moving from shelf to another and perusing through hundreds of books. This user-friendly system offers book status information not only in the main library, but also in all member libraries worldwide.
Other than the equipped modern library that offers rich academic research, Towson University offered an attractive aID-on feature to me as a nursing student. The University has collaborated with major hospitals in the state and beyond to facilitate students’ industrial attachment. This was very attractive to me given that I was a nursing student who would require industrial attachment after my second academic year. This arrangement is unique to the Towson University and offers students in the health related courses undertake the mandatory internship with less hustle.
Students’ Housing Facilities
Towson University is attractive for the capability to offer convenient in and off campus housing. Residing within the campus grounds helps shape the students’ college experience both academically and socially. Despite the University’s large student population, through the university and off campus housing, all students can secure convenient residence. This allows for quick and convenient access to academic amenities and other social facilities. For instance, the Towson University village that is located within a walking distance from the University grounds offers privacy and the best lifestyle that every student would deserve. Other than its convenience, the village offers unmatched social amenities and attractive student apartments that are affordable to students.
Conclusion
I did not land into Towson University as a matter of fate, but I chose it among many others due to various competitive amenities that it offers. These include a large and modern equipped library that operates through an online catalog for an easier search of research material. In aIDition, the University facilitates industrial attachments for its students, a factor that is not common in many universities. Moreover, I was pleased by the university’s security and safety mechanisms that operate around the clock to ensure students’ and staff safety. Finally, the University offers both on and off campus housing ‘which are convenient and pleasant’ to the student academic and social life. Thus, I chose Towson University among all other competing universities that were available to me.
