It is the duty of a heath professional to render good services to the patients. This paper delineates on the various aspects of training and education in healthcare.
In current days, training and education in health care are vital. There is substantial and alarming evidence that suggests that the current workforce lacks enough support to function effectively; therefore it is unable to deliver better care to the people in need. Of course, this finding indicates that there is need of training and education on different aspects that concern provision of healthcare (American Psychological Association, 2014). The fact that the population is increasing drastically and the nature of health complications is also changing calls for the transformation of systems of care, which depends on the workforce to ensure that proper healthcare is provided. Training and education equip the practitioners with skills and knowledge on different aspects of their professionals. Even though the practitioners are trained and have gone through various educational systems, they still require aIDitional or rather continuous training to be better equipped (Norgaard, Ammentorp & Kyvik, 2012).
Training allows the medical practitioners to make better decisions pertaining to the various medical complications presented to them. They will have knowledge and competencies to diagnose various cases and prescribe good treatment. Another advantage why training and education is required is due to the changing lifestyles and diseases that are cropping up. The practitioners will be in a better position to deal with new developments hence impacting positively to the health sector. Training and education is also essential as it is an impetus to advancements in research and development. Research is essential in healthcare because it helps in the investigation of different aspects concerning healthcare, providing amicable solutions to various problems that affect patients. With the advancement of technologies, it becomes prudent for the practitioners to be trained on how they can incorporate information technology systems in their service delivery. Electronic systems have been integrated in the health care systems and some of the practitioners may not have the skills to operate the machines; therefore, it is important to train and to equip them with such skills.
Training is a complex aspect and extends to issues of communication and relationship between the practitioners, and between the practitioners and the patients. There are many challenges in healthcare, mainly caused by the lack of effective communication; this causes conflicts and low self-esteem among others. Many of these problems can be eliminated by effective communication (American Psychological Association, 2014). The practitioners should know how to communicate and interact with fellow practitioners and the patients in a better way. This enhances positive relationships and impact positively on the quality of health.
Various people perceive measuring competencies of employees differently. In an organization, people are talented and wired differently. However, regardless of this, they must satisfactorily perform the duties assigned to them. There are various benefits in measuring the competencies of employees or individuals in an institution. One of them is that this process helps the organization to determine whether employees are aIDing value to the organization through the roles assigned or not (Facchini, 2013). Therefore, this allows the organization to aIDress the issues and enhance its performance. Measuring competencies also allows the workers to work hard towards meeting their objectives, which contributes to the achievement of the organizational overall goals. Another important fact is that it instills the spirit of achievement in employees, making them competent and hardworking, which impact positively on the organization.
Monitoring or tracking and evaluating any training process is essential as through this, the organization is able to determine whether the training is moving on effectively as anticipated, and whether indeed the training has achieved the desired results (Facchini, 2013). To track and evaluate effectively a training program, it is important to have a plan on how the process will be done. Planning will help one to factor various aspects that will ensure the process runs smoothly (Facchini, 2013). Planning entails coming up with the time plans, the budgets and appropriate personalities to spearhead the process among others. As the training progresses, information is gathered to determine whether the training is moving on as anticipated. This can be done by watching how the practitioners perform their duties and interact with the patients and the fellow practitioners. Likewise, questionnaires and interviews can be conducted to get the views of the practitioners under training. When the session of training ends, the whole process is then evaluated to determine whether it had positive impact or whether the objectives and goals were met. This stage will entail use of interview, observation and questionnaires as well. From the way the practitioners will respond and behave, it will indicate whether the training was effective or not.
In conclusion, training and education need to be continuous programs for health practitioners. These training programs are essential as they continue to aID skills and knowledge, making the practitioners more efficient. Competency also needs to be measured as this allows the organization to determine whether the employees have the capabilities to meet the expectation of the organization.
