Base on the proposal I wrote, feedback, and project’s guidelines, write a report, address the following elements in the following sections. Remember your proposal? Think of this report like an expanded version of that. You have the freedom to include much more detail and information in this report.
Underneath each heading, I have included questions to help guide you when you’re writing the section.
1) Introduction
What is your topic? Give us some background information on it.
In one paragraph, explain what you’ll be telling us in this report. For example, tell us that the purpose of this report is to compare and contrast (that’s the method) three episodes of “Sex and the City” to investigate messages about feminism (that’s the theory).
2) Literature Review
This is where you tell us what you found pertaining to your topic during your search of news articles, databases and journal articles. Let’s say you’re writing about an environmental and sustainability influencer on TikTok – how many users follow this account? Let’s say you’re writing about NFTs. What are NFTs? This is the paragraph in which you go in depth and explain your topic.
In another paragraph, you’ll also want to explain how your topic relates to communication, society and technology—or all three. What role does it play?
3) Theory and Methods
Describe the theory or theories you used when thinking about your topic. This doesn’t have to be a theory we talked about in class. Think big!
Did you apply diffusion of innovation theory to think about how TikTok grew in popularity during the pandemic, for example? Did you apply social learning theory to show examples of how sexual promiscuity was modeled in “Jersey Shore”?
In another paragraph, tell us about the method you used to analyze your topic. Did you choose a few examples to compare and contrast with one another?
4) Findings
What did you find out about your topic using the methods you proposed? What was the results of your case study, for example? If you did a framing analysis of news stories, how did the newspaper represent the topic?
5) Discussion and Conclusion
This is where you reiterate what you have said and tie everything together. Summarize the key takeaways from your report. Why is this topic relevant and important? What are some ways this topic or phenomenon could change in the future? What would this technology look like ten years from now, for example?
6) Appendix
If you analyzed a YouTube video, include the hyperlink here. Include screenshot/photo of the social media post, for example.
7) References
If you included outside information, you need to cite it appropriately in this section. Use APA format.
