  2. Adapt and use the appropriate manner of communication for age; culture; and ethnicity.
  3. Describe the role of the nurse when providing care to older adults in

the community.

  1. Discuss previously held beliefs/assumptions about how older adults

live independently in the community.

  1. Assess older adults’ risks and understand the importance of weighing

risks and benefits when caring for older adults.

  1. Maintain professionalism during the interview.

 

 

  1. Introduce yourself as a Montgomery College Nursing Student who is in the second semester of nursing school. Explain the course (NURS 126) and share the Clinical Learning Outcomes (page 1) with the older adult.
  2. Inform the older adult that you are interviewing him/her for a class project and that you will share information obtained during the interview with your teacher and fellow students.
  3. Inform the older adult that you will only use their initials to identify them and assure them that you will not share any other identifiers.
  4. Thank the older adult for their time and for sharing this information with you.
  5. Assignment must be completed in essay format using the six content areas to construct paragraphs. Assignments not completed in essay format will not be graded.

8.       What surprised you most from this experience? How much chronic health issues I learned my grandmother has, I knew she was a long-time diabetic but her cholesterol and glaucoma issues I did not know about until now 0.1
9.       How did your personal assumptions/beliefs about older adults change? If they did not change, how were they reinforced? I now believe older adults who may suffer from the same chronic illness don’t all suffer the same fate. I work with a lot of geriatric patients who suffer from the same chronic illnesses as my grandmother who are either the same age or maybe younger than my grandmother however they face a lot of physical ailments that cause them to miss out on daily life, I now believe that I may not suffer the same fate as my grandmother gives me confidence that as long as I take good care of my health, take medications as prescribe, and stay physically active in my community I can live a meaningful life even in old age. 0.1
