CASE STUDY IS ON THE BOOK PAGE 321 (ACUTE ASTHMA)

CASE STUDY:
Eight-year-old B.J has had asthma for 2 years since he has acute bronchitis. He was tested for allergic and demonstrated marked responses to a number of animals, pollens, and molds. B.J also has a history of asthma related to exposure to very cold weather.
1. Describe the pathophysiology of an acute asthma attack in B.J followings exposure to cats.
2. Describe the early sign of an acute asthma attacks and related each of these to the chances taking place in the lungs.
3. If you were updating a medical and drug history for B.J list several significant questions that you should ask.
4. Describe what precautions you would take if you were treating or dealing with B.J had an attack while he was with you.
5. Stated and explain the effects of a prolonged asthma attack.
6. Explain the factors contributing to a severe hypoxia and acidosis in a prolonged attack.
7. Define status asthmaticus.
8. Explain why B.J is likely to have frequently respiratory infections.
9. Suggests several measures that B.J can take to reduce anxiety and perhaps the risk of an asthma attack.
10. Explain how a beta 2 – adrenergic agent is helpful in treating asthma and how it is usually administered.

Please summarize the case and discuss the questions that are asked with the case study presentation. Although it is not specifically asked, make sure that you are including aspects of immobility from Chapter 25 (Immobility and associated problem) within the answers to the questions, and drawing ABGs on your patient, relaying the results (note you will need to make up what would be considered appropriate ABG results based on this case), and what those results mean in relation to your case study
