If you were using drugs and felt that things had gone out of control, what would you want  your friends to do for you? (hint: see page 162 “Take Charge If Someone you Know Has a Drug Problem”) Justify your answer. Respond to at least two other students.

Many food aIDitives are currently approved for use and are recognized as “GRAS” (generally recognized as safe) substances.  Review the text p.231-12th ed. (AIDitives in Food, Food Irradiation and Genetically Modified Food)  & p. 218-13th ed. (AIDitives in Food and Food Biotechnology) and the article: “Chemical Cuisine Learn about Food AIDitives” by the Center for Science in the Public Interest.

Check out the entire article (all listed substances) and descriptions, then go to your pantry/refrigerator or review items at the grocery store.  Find two food aIDitives to discuss that are currently present in the foods you consume (and listed in the category of: cut back; caution; certain people should avoid; avoid).  Defend whether you agree or disagree with aIDing the substance to food and why. Do your findings change your attitude about purchasing the product?
