i would like to response to two discussion

1-Voodoo has been a powerful force in the Caribbean island both positively and negatively and almost the whole population in Haiti believe and practicing voodoo. Voodoo is a true syncretism; a mix of the worship of the gods their West African ancestors observed from ancient times and the worship of the Catholic saints that the slaves were taught in the new world. Although Voodoo doesn’t have an exact origins but it mainly came from West Africa the name of Voodoo means God or spirit in the local Fon language (Haas, 2011). Voodoo conjures up images of magical dolls with pins stuck in them to inflict pain one one’s enemies and the resurrection of the dead as zombies (Corbett, 1988). In Haiti Voodoo is more like a religion to me because people believe in it more even though the person is a christian or catholic their have faith in it more. I’ve witness a Voodoo ceremony before during they worship they use a type of rattle called asson in creole, which is representing apprenticeship. Now the Voodoo is a sacred value for the people who believe and practice it. How? for example in Haiti magic do works when somebody sick people automatically think somebody is trying kill them through magic due to the fact that a lot of Haitians performed it a lot and if somebody die from magic you will know because if the person family pay a voodoo priest they will told them or you can analyze the way they die. To me Voodoo is real and if somebody believe in it will work for you. Voodoo as a religion and our perspective of it is dramatic because there’s both good and bad impact in the practice. The main aspect of the religion is not only to do wrong but to save our life from evil people as well.

2-Hello Jocelyn,

Coming from a Caribbean island, I had some knowledge of Voodoo practices, however, I had only known of it because of its bad impact, not the good one. It is really amazing to see how something can be ambiguous, even on religion topics. I also did not know that once you performed Voodoo on someone a priest could come and tell that person that a Voodoo practice took place. That was a very interesting thing to know because most spiritual things have no way of knowing how it happened.

Thank you for sharing.
