2.Listen to examples of Gregorian chant (any of the examples on this Wikipedia page will do). Compare and contrast the Gregorian chant to another musical style of your choosing. What are similarities and differences between these musical styles?

3.Compare the author page from the Ebbo Gospel of Saint Matthew, created during the Carolingian period, to the mosaic of Christ Pantocrator or another notable Byzantine image. Discuss the similarities or differences in aesthetics and style. Does the author page from the illumined manuscript convey the same sense of the nature of the divine as icons do? Does it serve the same religious function as the Byzantine work? How do developments in illuminated manuscripts relate to the Carolingian Renaissance?
