For the first half the semester we have covered many different dimensions of the synoptic
gospels. Which include the messianic secret and mysteriousness of the Gospel of Mark in the
article Jesus and the hidden kingdom, we look at the relationship of specific women in the
Gospel of Mark (Jairus daughter, bleeding woman, and the Syrophoenician woman). Then we
discuss the outline of Matthew and Jesus five main speeches (your group focused speech)
followed finally by a comparison study of the Birth narratives in Luke and Matthew.
The four topics we have covered in the class so far are:
1.) Messianic secret/mysteriousness of the Gospel of mark in the article Jesus and the hidden
kingdom
2.) Jesus and woman (Jairus daughter and the bleeding woman and the Syrophoenician woman)
3.) Gospel Matthew’s 5 main speeches of Jesus (Sermon on the Mount, Discipleship,
Community, Parables, the end Times)
4.) Comparison Study of the Birth narratives in the Gospel of Luke and Matthew
(Prompt): Pick two of the topics we have discussed in class, as individuals or as group work, and
discuss in detail the important impact it adds to the Gospel, the audience, and to the
understanding of who Jesus is?
