Introduction
Training and development is a fundamental concept that denotes a learning process which
comprises the perfecting of abilities, ideas, alteration of employee attitude and acquisition of
more knowledge to boost the employees’ performance. Independently, a training program has to
do with strengthening the employees’ skills that they need to have for a particular job. But a
development program results in all the workers attaining the same level so that they all develop
related skills and awareness. As a result, there is a reduction of interdependence amongst the
workers to complete assigned duties. Small businesses have fewer employees; hence it is
manageable to adopt training and development programs.
The size of a venture does not matter concerning stimulation of economic growth; small
enterprises are also significant in improving the economies through offering employment
opportunities to individuals who may not obtain a chance at the larger companies. However,
challenges are also common in the businesses and pose a significant threat to the managers as
they address the issue of performance. Also, in small organizations, there is a need to consider
and assess the main components of training and development to enhance their overall
performance. The paper will provide a detailed and complete training proposal along with other
elements regarding an example of a little chosen business. The example will encompass a
Daycare enterprise, and I chose on Chapel Hill Daycare.
Elements of Training and Development to Improve Performance of the Chapel Hill
Daycare

The training and development of such business need to entail various relevant elements
for both its present and future prosperity. The essential and most sensitive basics include
emergency preparedness, health, and safety including first aid skills, child development and
guidance, learning activities and hygiene are also basics. Appropriate training in a daycare setup
needs to enhance the expertise of the employed staff along with creating a standard
understanding for all of the individuals involved. The adopted training components should
combine specific desired objectives and ability of the workers in a particular venture to have
hands-on experience as much as possible (Sloman, 2017).
First and foremost, the most sensitive element is the health and safety regarding the
children. Young kids or the infants are vulnerable and therefore monitoring, and consideration of
their health and safety is very crucial. A training program needs to remind the staff to keep watch
over the kids at all times to ensure they are safe; it is also critical that the kids have suitable
clothing depending on the prevailing weather to ensure they don’t develop health complications
(sloman, 2017). Employee education should also focus on a better understanding of childhood
development and how to develop fun and learning activities to keep the kids engaged; for
example, create pictorial charts and engage their minds at all the times.
Hygienic practices are vital when it comes to dealing with children so there should be no
negotiation about that. Staff sensitization on feeding behavior, for instance, should be a priority
in the daycare business. Some of these centers allow parents to the children to carry food with
them while others provide food services. Therefore, careful food preparations have to be
inevitable to reduce food poisoning risks. What is also necessary is to provide a learning
experience on emergency preparedness since the disasters themselves are hardly predictable and

unavoidable. There are many cases of child abuse and violence in the majority of the childcare
institutions, and leading case is child abuse (sloman, 2017).
Potential Challenges that the Manager could face in Addressing Organizational
Performance
All businesses regardless of their nature, size, or location face challenges in many forms.
It is not common to find a company that does not incur difficulties in its day to day operations.
Therefore, the daycare business as well has their manager facing various constraints as they
attempt to address the performance of the company. The five main potential challenges that the
daycare business owner is likely to incur include difficulty in setting relevant goals, hiring
competent employees, financial constraints, competition from other owners of the same business
and also the inadequacy of daycare resources (Julien, 2018).
Setting achievable and relevant goals by the managers is not easy. Realization of the
company’s success in performance requires that employees’ efforts largely contributes to higher
goals of the company. It can be hard for the manager to monitor and motivate the performance of
workers whose engagement in the venture is always essential for the company to attain the
stipulated goals. The organizational performance will be on the rise when there is the hiring of
vibrant and skillful employees. It is not a guarantee for owners of the daycare business to get
workers that have the required skills to execute the duties. Therefore, the manager will opt to
recruit only those that are available in the market to assist in trying to meet higher organizational
performance (Julien, 2018).
Another challenge is the financial resource factor. Small businesses like the daycare also
require a pool of funds to carry out their operations as usual. Managers need to pay their workers

in the form of salaries on time to encourage them doing a better job. The source of the money
they receive mainly originate from the parents who give away their children for the daycare
program. Moreover, competition which is a popular scene is a problem that threatens the daycare
manager. There are other daycare businesses elsewhere that bring about the competition; the
manager gets discouraged but also encouraged to work harder because the clients look for the
best (Julien, 2018).
Effects of Detecting Organizational Gaps in the Chapel Hill Daycare
The gaps posing the implications can either be internal or external regarding the business.
Detecting the gaps assist in disclosing whatever that may be hindering the company from
accomplishing its full capacity. The detection also has the implication of alerting the manager to
be aware of the areas in the underperforming business; whether the gaps relate to internal or
external factors (Daft, 2015). That will allow the owner of Chapel Hill Daycare to acquire an
effective strategy to fix the difference hence improving on performance.
Again, discovering gaps in the Chapel Hill Daycare will let the business to stay on course
and as well focus on the future to attain prosperity. It will enable the organization to identify the
gap in the market which will, in turn, give it a competitive advantage over the other competitors
embracing daycare business. The pleasant working environment is crucial to encourage and keep
on the employees to continue working hard in the institution while an environment that is not
favorable will not motivate employees to work and give their best. Therefore, the firm’s manager
detecting this issue will help rectify hence improving its probability to succeed in the growing
industry (Daft, 2015).

Another example of the effect of detecting gaps in the company includes the ability of
the daycare company to understand the scenario concerning the recent situation of the enterprise.
The current condition is likely to be either positive or negative, and therefore that enables the
manager to adopt the best and most appropriate strategy regarding the situation (Daft, 2015).
Moreover, the manager will know the kinds of resources to add on the existing list or those that
are entirely missing. Resources form an essential basis for the prosperity of the small business.
Competitive Training Strategy that will improve the Position of the Business in the Market
Just like any other venture, the Chapel Hill Daycare will require a very competitive
training strategy, which will substantially play a role in enabling the enterprise to better its
market position. It is significant that the organization commence by embracing the role-playing
training strategy which in turn includes training about effective communication among the
workers. The training program promotes a more comfortable and convenient customer service
whereby the clients bringing their kids at the institution will enjoy the competitive services
delivered by the daycare staff. With the training strategy, the working team can learn ways of
serving the clients hence helping them get satisfaction and having a guarantee that their children
are safe.
Furthermore, the proposed training program encompasses employees undergoing
coaching to receive unique abilities in diversified areas the foremost being client satisfaction; all
the staff involved in handling the young population will surely benefit from such a training
technique. Also, the role-playing training strategy will independently engage the workers’ minds,
and the end product will be the acquisition of critical thinking skills. Implementation of the
training approach will help the business realize enormous profits, that is, high return on
investment. There will be a significant gain in the venture because many clients will seek such an

organization with staff that is adequately trained. The organization will gain a return on an
investment after the implementation of the strategy.
The rationale for the instructional strategies is that the outcome is increased productivity
and efficiency in the daycare business. I propose that there is a need for the manager to embrace
the training strategy designed with an agenda of training activities that allows the entire industry
to achieve its goals. The outline of the activities needs to be training on concepts such as
emergency preparedness, health, safety and so on. The strategy will enable teaching workers
excellent skills that would help improve on productivity thus being competitive in the market
which always dynamic. Also, it will facilitate easier informing of the employees on aspects of
organizational change.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the training as well as development program of Chapel Hill Daycare
business needs to involve a set of appropriate elements for both its present and future success.
The components must constitute child development and guidance, the safety of the kids, learning
activities and hygiene, and so on. All businesses around the world face problems in many forms.
It is common to find a company complaining about hardships in their daily operations.
Therefore, the Chapel Hill Daycare business similarly has their manager facing various
constraints as he or she addresses the performance of the business. I propose the business to
utilize a role-playing training strategy for assured effectiveness.
