What is organized crime?
As Wright (2008) defines the organized crime group as an organized group of three or more
people, acting together to commit one or more serious offenses in an attempt, directly or
indirectly, to obtain financial or other material wealth.
The main activities of organized crime groups include drugs and trafficking in human beings. A
major vehicle of large profits for criminal groups is the global demand for heroin, cocaine and
marijuana. The sex industry is also increasingly growing by trafficking women and children by
use of force or coercion (Wright, 2008).
