The Relationship Between Society and Curriculum (10% – minimum of three pages)

The system of education responds to change as conditions in the suprasystem (society) change. Remember, Education is a sub-system of Society and thereby changes with societal influences. Curriculum change/modification is a normal consequence of changes in the environment/society. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the curriculum specialist to seek continuous improvement in the curriculum. Both teachers and curriculum specialists have roles in curriculum development in collaboration with other school personnel.

2. Choose three (3) social and/or political developments, events, pressures, or forces in the United States since the year 2010 that have caused changes to your current district’s curriculum. (10 points)
Review the article you just read to help guide your thinking. ( ie Race to the Top; ESSA; Title I; Early Childhood legislation; Political change)
Talk with leaders, teachers, and specialists in your district to help you make your decision as well as identify artifacts that will help you formulate a historical perspective of curriculum reform in the district
3. Analyze in a scholarly professional manner the changes/reforms that were made in a 3-5 page paper not counting the reference sheet and cover page.
Include the following information in your narrative : (60 pts)
your current role in the district/organization you chose (5pts)
the demographics of the district you are reporting about and geographic location in the USA (5pts)
who (roles in the district) authorized the reform/changes and through what processes (decision/policymakers) (5pts)
what changes/reforms to curriculum were made and how were they implemented (provide examples) (5pts)
what was eliminated from the curriculum as the result of the reform (5pts)
what instructional delivery methods were changed (ie. use of technology; distance education, etc) (5pts)
what student groups benefitted from these changes and to what extent( provide examples of influence ) (5pts)
what support was put in place to sustain these changes (staffing changes, funding allocation, etc) (5pts)
What response to these changes was given by stakeholders to include parents/community (5pts)
what success metrics were used to evaluate the success of the reforms(5pts)Do you agree or disagree with these reforms? Why/why not (5pts)
What would you add or delete? Why/why not (5pts)
Cite your textbook as well as at least three (3) articles related to this topic to support your position. (10 pts)
Include a reference page (10 pts)
All references used in your paper to support your position need to be properly cited within the body of your paper and included on the reference page.
