1) How is geography applied around the world today? What is the benefit of looking through the world through a ‘geographic lens’? ( 5 points)
2) How should we view cultural identity and ethnicity? What elements of culture matter to us? What is still left to be discovered and/or discussed when we look at world cultures today?(5 points)
3)How does democracy and governance work in reality today, specially what does this look for us as citizens? What challenges democracy today and in the future?(5 points)
4)Why is supranationalism (regionalism/globalism) so important? If globalization is the future, what could be the outcome for the world going forward? How will globalization continue to impact our lives (be specific or general or both)?(5 point)
5)Why are conflicts so prevalent despite us living in a time with ‘relative peace’? How can the world help to limit or prevent conflicts around the world? What processes should/can we utilize to facilitate conflict resolution?(5 points)
6)Why is population such an important concept to understand within geography? Why are migrations and migrants a critical element for human populations today (note please answer in reference to our class, you don’t need to mention any coronavirus stuff for this answer)? How can people react to ongoing migrations and population changes in society today?(5 points)
Question 7 (35 points)
Essays- you need to write two essays (fully answers all of the questions). Make sure to use some examples to help you explain what your thoughts are. There are 3 choices, pick 2 of the 3 to write about. Note the Essay # on each essay please so I know which topic you’re writing about. Answer one of the essays in this box, then answer the other essay in the following essay space below (in the next question).Essay Option 1: Assess the world today under Climate Change. What does the future hold for the planet under changing climate conditions? What changes in society could we see in the future as we respond to climate change? How will people adapt to climate change? What measures may need to be taken to respond in enough time to help mitigate against devastating effects? Where will people be stressed the most under climate change?
Essay Option 2: Why is energy one of the most important concepts for the 21st century? How will Natural Resources change and evolve in our lifetimes? How can innovation and technology change how we operate under different energy requirements (how might this impact lives and lifestyles?). If the world is destined for renewable, sustainable resources, what energies are likely to emerge as the only options for people to use?
Essay Option 3: We’ve discussed equity and equality throughout this semester, detailing a variety of issues and concepts which are impacted by the lack of fairness, justice and equal outcomes. Discuss how we can improve equity and equality around the world, noting the topics and concepts we discussed (you can choose to discuss in detail one topic, or a variety of topics/ideas which touch on equity/equality). This can range from politics, culture, populations to development and economics.

Note there are 2 essay options. I have one question that shows all the potential prompts, but you should answer one essay in the first question space and the second essay in the second question space. I will note this on the exam. The remaining questions are short answers, but you should fully write out answers, more than one or two sentences. Examples provided will be good. Don’t forget to answer all the questions addressed! Don’t feel the need to write too much. If you want just judge your responses like this- answer the short answers with at least 4 sentences, the essays with at least 10 sentences. Writing more is likely better, you will then for sure answer the questions fully then.
This exam has no time limit, but should take only 2 hours to complete. Please study before you take it. I do notice when people go way over on time. You shouldn’t spend an overwhelming amount of time on this, especially if you have other assessments to do for this course or other courses.
