Design a study aimed to assess cross-cultural differences on a psychological topic of your choice. I have included some research questions below but you are welcome to make your own too:
Are emotions expressed the same across cultures?
How do cultures define attraction?
Why do some cultures perform body alterations?
Is there an association between women having money and perceived independence?
Why do some cultures have arranged marriages?
How is depression diagnosed across cultures?
Once you have picked a topic you would like to explore, please answer the following questions:
What is your research question?
What type of question is it (descriptive, causal, consequence, or nondirective)
Will you conduct a quantitative or qualitative study? Explain why you chose this method
Discuss your population of interest (what cultures will you choose to focus on and why)?
What steps will you take to ensure your measures are culturally appropriate?
Discuss how you would conduct your study. So, what would you actually have participants DO?
What are some potential issues in conducting this type of cross-cultural study?
Comment on another classmates study idea. What do you like about the study and what are some potential issues that might arise?
