Alfred Hitchcock’s “Rear Window” and “Vertigo” are discussed in terms of editing on the course syllabus, but, of course, these films also are brilliant when considered in terms of such additional cinematic components as mise-en-scene, cinematography, storytelling and acting. Write a critical essay about either one of these two films, although it would be acceptable to occasionally reference the other film for comparative purposes. As you keep a relatively tight focus on one film, you correspondingly will want to have a thesis that closely examines certain thematic and technical aspects of that film. Outside research may bolster your thesis, but this is primarily your own critical analysis of the film. Use MLA-style references for any cited research material. Also by way of rubric, there is a minimum length of three pages, double-spaced.
