UCLA Bus Station on Gilman Drive Short Story On 9 am March 5th, our group gathered at the bus station on Gilman Drive. At first, we were expecting it would be busy because students are always filled with this bus station and 9 am in the morning is a busy commuting time period. However, when we arrived, there were not so many people waiting on the benches. Then we realized that in the morning people, oftenly students from UCSD, will be busy getting off the bus instead of waiting for the bus to go home. So we waited a little longer for more buses to come. The weather is chilly in the morning but still sunny as it should be. The surroundings of the bus station are what we tend to ignore everyday. But this time, we paid attention to it. Usually, there is not so much color of this station other than the red sign and cold silver metal. However, it is spring season, some flowers on the side of both bus stations are blooming, those magenta and white flowers add up some vigor to the bus station. Then we noticed the trash cans on both sides are not being cleaned up yet. Both of them are filled up with trash overnight. There are some forks on the top of one trash can, it looks like those forks from the school’s dining court. Then we observed those waiting at the benches……..or the bus coming….. Next person can continue ….. People sitting and waiting for bus
Almost everyone is on their phones, reading books
Some people are Standing on their phones
One person on wheelchair
People getting off the bus
Most of them are by themselves, some with friends
Some are on their phones

Scooters- 9 a.m: bus station is not busy and the bus is not crowded
-I noticed that nearly half of them were wearing headphones
-Almost everyone is looking at their phones
-Some people carry backpack that look heavy
-A few people got off the bus and walked in a hurry. I thought they might be
almost late
-A man walks while eating a sandwich
-The bus at the bus station seems to be going very regularly
-The bus platform is equipped with seats, which brings people a comfortable
waiting environment
around

There are a lot of shared bicycles and scooters on the side. Some
people ride the bike and the scooter to the bus station.
Most people are students from ucsd b/c this bus station is at ucsd and
it’s the busiest bus stop.
Some people are sitting on the bench or standing next to the bus stop.
Some of them are wearing earphones while they are waiting for the
bus.
There is a stand showing the time schedule about each bus such as 41
202 and 150… which is about 15min per bus line.
Most of the students go straight forward to the direction of the price
center. And running fast. (Maybe they are late to the class)
There are about 2-3 people who are not students. Old people. One
person looks about 60 years old, and he has a little handcart with him.
There is a lot of stuff in his card, such as clothes and plastic bags.
One person is holding a big shopping bag, and the shopping bag looks
pretty old. She looks like 60-70 years old, and she’s looking in the trash
can to find the empty water bottles.
People are passing by very fast, and they sometimes would hit other
people when they pass by.
Most students are taking 202 and 30 buses instead of 41 and 150
because 202 can reach to the stops that most ucsd students live in.
They all use the campus cloud app on their phone to show the driver,
and they can take the ‘free’ bus.
There is not an exact line for each bus, people are just roughing
around and just all get together at the bus door when the right bus
arrives.
Not busy as usually, 2 or 3 people waiting on the benches, 1 is
standing next to a pole and leaning on it/ yawning
First bus arrived, people walking down with headphones, and people
still on the bus are looking at their cellphones.
One is drinking protein shake, one on the bench is eating sandwich
with a hurry
Gilman dr is busy as usual, traffic occurs
Cars waiting behind the light, some of them stepped on the pedestrian
lines, and people walking across the street need to avoid the car on
their zebra crossings and looking at the car and act like asking why it
stepped on here. Facial expressions…
cold/ but very sunny day, spring comes, flowers blooming on the side
of the street.
Trash can is filled, not cleaned yet.
Some people wearing masks, washing their hands with sanitizer when
they get off the bus, most are Asians
