Each student is required to submit 2 written case analyses during the
semester (see attached schedule for individual assignments). The following
framework should be used to analyze cases:
Situation analysis: summarize the salient points of the case and
clearly convey why the case is being evaluated (should be no more
than a 3-4 sentence paragraph)
SWOT analysis: a brief SWOT analysis should be included in the
narrative portion of your paper. You should identify and rationalize
key components in each of the four areas, and not simply restate
facts from the case. A comprehensive SWOT framework should be
developed using a template and attached as an appendix (refer to
the sample SWOT templates posted in Blackboard).
Problem definition: assess the major problem(s) and/or strategic
issues faced by the company (or companies) in the case in one
sentence.
Strategic alternatives: develop strategic alternatives and provide
brief justification for each. Status quo should be the first alternative.
Note: alternatives should be strategic, not tactical.
Strategic recommendation: identify and justify strategic
recommendation (note: it may have sub-parts). Thoroughly assess
relative to the problem definition, taking into consideration cost and
