PS 1020 CSU Criminal Law Affirmative Action to Stop Discrimination Discussion PS 1020 UNIT VII DISCUSSION BOARD:
Do you think that affirmative action is an adequate response to the past injustices against minorities and systemic racism experienced during segregation? Explain. In what ways could it be improved?
RESPONSE TO CLASSMATE THIS IS WHAT THEY WROTE:
I think affirmative action is a good start to stop discrimination. The problem is, it is not the entire solution to the problem. The idea is to provide resources, jobs, or opportunities to those minorities who haven’t historically been offered them in the past. The problem is, at what point do you stop? Do you ever stop? Does affirmative action eventually lead to discrimination against those in society that society believes have not previously been discriminated in the past? This is a sensitive and very personal issue for some people.
In my opinion, it’s a balance. Let’s use hiring an employee as an example. I support the idea of a corporation making an effort to hire minorities and make their workforce more diverse. What I begin to have a problem with is when qualified candidates start to become overlooked because they are not a minority. The employer should find a balance and positions in which they will use affirmative action practices and areas where they simply should find the best employee for the job.
The government, on the other hand, should work towards offering the same benefits and services to all. I’m not saying that they have or haven’t. They should ensure that there is nothing that would exclude any specific race, gender, or other factors in providing their services.
A solution for the affirmative action platform is to have a more representative government. Those minorities who are being or have been discriminated against should run for office. Seek to affect change. Represent their minority within their communities.
BCJ 3601 UNIT VII DISCUSSION BOARD:
Part I:
Write your own discussion board question for this week.
Your question should lead to an open discussion with your classmates. Give them something to think about. Get creative! Steer clear from stagnant “essay-style” assessment questions.
Your question should relate to the material we’ve studied on criminal law, evidence or criminal procedure to this point. For example, you can use Fourth or Fifth Amendment related topics that are in the news this week. You could ask a question about an open case you’ve been following in your area. Include the sources that you used to research your question for your classmates to read.
Your question should be unique and not the same as any other student at time of posting. (First in time, first in right)
Do not use any of the Unit Assessment essay questions as your discussion board question, that will result in a zero score for the assignment.
Part II:
Answer it thoroughly. You must provide a discussion of at least one case law or statute to support your response

Yes I believe that courts are too lenient to repeat offenders even the violent offenders. There was a case some years ago in Beaufort, SC where a guy name CJ Green was on bond for attempted murder. This was not only the first time he was on bond for the same thing. While on bond this time he murdered someone else and tried to murder the second person. He even made bond again after that. The family made a huge fuss with the solicitor and they finally revoked his bond and he was charged with murder and attempted murder. In the case above its the same thing, subject let out and him being a repeat offender killed someone in a hit and run. It is sad that the ones that need to be punish seem to have more freedom than the ones that are charged with lesser crimes.
