Personal Banker In Bright Bank Individual Reflection And Development Plan Purpose:
The purpose of the individual reflection and development plan is to gain a deeper understanding of
current yourself and develop a plan regarding how you will use this knowledge and insight to grow as an
individual personally and professionally. To accomplish this, each student will be required to create an
Individual Development Plan, which will be composed of your responses and reflections on a number of self-
assessments, exercises, and readings that are assigned throughout the semester including the STANDOUT 2.0
assessment completed at the beginning of the semester. (find all exercises and assessments in the attachments)
In developing the plan, you will need to identify a super ordinate or overarching goal that you may have for
yourself and use this goal to help guide you in developing your plan. (working at a bank right now as a personal banker (makeup a bank name) and would like to eventually transfer to their Human Resource department after graduation)
Consider which of the assessments and exercises provide insights that will help you get closer to reaching that overarching goal and how you will react on your reflections to these assessments and exercises. (all attached assesments needs to be i the paper)
Example: “My overarching goal that is driving my individual development plan is as follows: To have a
positive and lasting impact on others through mentoring and leadership.”
Example: “My overarching goal that is driving my individual development plan is as follows: To successfully
run and manage a small startup company.”
Example: “My overarching goal that is driving my individual development plan is as follows: To obtain a
leadership role as a CMO in the X industry.”
Example: “My overarching goal that is driving my individual development plan is as follows: To obtain
interesting, challenging work and progress into a senior management position that provides me with financial
security and the opportunity to effectively lead others.
Each of these overarching goals requires self-reflection and are relevant to one’s personal and professional
growth. Thus, most of the assessments this semester will be relevant. The key is to find the ones that are likely to
be the most impactful in regard to your overarching goal.
Be specific. Don’t
just say “I will need to be emotionally intelligent in my career.” Say instead” After I start my own
consulting practice, taking advantage of my equalizer strength (standard 2.0) I will need to use the empathy skills
that I have, per several respondents in the Best Reflected Self exercise. Since Advisor has already been identified as another of my 2.0 strengths I think that I have set an “Attainable” goal (Latham SMART goals) for my career in the long-run.”
Length:
Paper should be 10 page long double-spaced typed pages (Times New Roman, 12pt. font, 1” margins).
Be succinct and focused when reflecting and identifying future actions. Page
limit does not include a title page, if any, or an Appendix, which may be composed of graphs, tables, diagrams,
pictures, and scales. These are not substitutes for text and must be referenced in the body of the paper if used.
Look at the attached file for a sample. FOLLOW THE SAMPLE PAPER. Please try to write the paper similar to the sample. (no table of content) The paper talks about lengthy personal goals, you can keep personal short but talk more about professional goals (I’m studying management and would like to work for HR as stated above) Look at the attached file titled info to find the assessment that you will need to include in the paper. All the assessments mentioned in the attachment needs to be included in the paper. There are two PPT attached as well that talk about two different books, information about those book needs to be incorporated nicely in the paper as well.
Again, read the sample throughly and follow that please.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Fariha Peuly
Dad
One of those times I have seen you at your best was when your sister broke my camera, and I lost my temper on you
because I thought you were the one who broke it as I found you trying to fix it. Instead of shouting back or arguing
with me, you kept quiet and walked away despite the fact you didn’t break the camera. In situation, the unique
strength you demonstrated is self-control, your goal was to maintain a respectful relationship with me which you
did quite well
Mom
You displayed the best character when you were only 10 years old and I left you in charge of your sister for two days
while we attended a burial. You ensured that your sister went to school earlier and made sure that you completed
all the chores at home. The strength you displayed here was responsibility and accountability.
Tursha (Sister)
One of the times I have seen you at your best was when we went to England: while we collectively had a displeasing
experience, you maintained your cool expression and thoughtfulness to the end. None of the hosts were aware of
any unpleasant feelings toward them from you.
The unique strength you displayed: you are able project emotions to prioritize your goals. Your goal was to leave
them with a polite impression of you, so you masked all your displeasure and guarded your real feelings to the point
they only had nice things to say about you.
Abtahi (Brother)
It was never an easy task when you were trying to teach me how to ride a bike. It was difficult because I was often
afraid and stubborn that we kept repeating the basics, but you never gave up on me and although it took more than
5 months, you proved to be patient because you never gave up despite my stubbornness.
Nash (Cousin)
One of the times I’ve seen you at your best is when my mother, your aunt, was in the hospital and you tended to her
needs. You did so in a way that showed you truly cared and wanted her to receive the best care she possibly could
during her stay.
The unique trait you displayed was that you are adamant about what needs to get done, especially for the
betterment of your loved ones. You can gain control of situations without over pushing your limits. In this case, for
example, you requested things from the hospital staff for my mother and made sure everything was accounted for
by the time you left.
Namera (Cousin)
This is not something specific but maybe you can tweak it to make it into a specific occasion. Whenever we all speak
in English, make jokes and laugh and my mom is there with us, because she’s not fluent in English, you always pause
to explain things to her even if it’s not funny when translated. You put efforts into making her feel included! This
shows how you are very considerate of others and how you pay attention to little details like this.
Diane (Colleague)
Your best was seen when I lost my dad during a road accident. I was feeling low and didn’t focus on any of the
projects we were supposed to complete together; you tried to encourage me and mostly completed all the work
alone. You were kind and gentle toward me as you understood my situation and never complained about finishing
the work alone.
Sade (Colleague)
I saw the best in you when we were doing a project together, and we spent many extra hours trying to make our
project perfect for about three months. You were positive about it, and you always cheered me up when I felt like
we may not make it. You motivated me and recognized my effort throughout the project by providing me with
incentives.
Fariha Peuly
Faiq (Colleague)
A time when you displayed your best was when I stole your idea and presented it to the boss before you would
present it and you didn’t charge or embarrassed me in front of him but confronted me privately. In this case, you
were able to solve a conflict effectively and made me realize what I did was terrible.
Farhana (Best friend)
Once in high school during lunchtime, I tripped, and my lunch fell, and you went ahead to share your lunch with me.
I liked your generosity as you were able to put my needs first and share your food even though the amount of food
was for a single individual.
Mary (Friend)
You displayed the best of yourself during a time when my boyfriend cheated on me, and you let me know about the
incident. I called you names because I didn’t believe you. You didn’t argue with me but remained calm and kind
despite all the confrontations I threw towards you.
Thomas (Friend)
One of those times you were at your best was during the study of our Accounting final exam. I came to ask for help
from you the night before because I hardly understood anything about the subject. You took your time to explain
the materials I struggled with till late. The unique strength you were able to exercise is the willingness to help. I know
it might not sound like a lot, but I was grateful because not a lot of people are willing to help someone else the day
before an exam.
Mrs. Smith (Family friend)
One of those times you were at your best was when you carried my disabled kid from outside and brought him
indoors. The caregiver had left him outside and was busy talking to her boyfriend over the phone, and she barely
noticed when it started to rain. The unique strength you were able to exercise there was compassion. You knew my
boy couldn’t take himself back inside the house when the rain started, and you decided to carry him inside.
Tom (Neighbor)
One of those times you were at your best was when I was on vacation and left you in charge of my cat and dog. You
were supposed to feed them and take the dog out for a walk sometimes. When I came back, they were in good
shape. You proved to be a person someone can rely on, and you will come through.
Ms. Felicia (Customer)
When the economy was on the downside, and it felt like business was ruined. You were able to convince me and
give me hope that what I had invested in your organization was not going to be lost. The unique strength you were
able to exercise was optimism even in the face of a downside.
I’m a Giver

given by the book and
found out I’m a giver. Talk

▪ Takers- competitive mindset, interested

▪ Matchers- quid pro quo

The best
leaders are

▪ Givers focus on the needs of other

▪ They are generous with their time,

▪ Givers benefit not only themselves but

also others and their company- not
selfish
▪ 5-minute favor rule
▪ Use motivation- they don’t just focus on

▪ Takers see the world as a “dog-eats-dog place” and are in
constant competition to be at the top.
▪ Takers are selfish in nature and like to get more than they give.
Why Takers
Lose
▪ Takers will take credit for the work done in a team rather than
share the accomplishment.
▪ They feel threatened by others success and will take actions to
sabotage them.
Why
Takers Lose
Usually burn bridges by constantly taking selfish actions. Since
most people are “matchers” people tend to reciprocate those
actions in kind. Leaving takers without friends in times they might
need it most.
• The extremes of givers and takers are easy to describe, what if
you’re neither?
What if You’re
Neither Extreme?
• Most people are a hybrid of both a giver and a taker
• Matchers focus on giving just as much as they take
• They utilize what is fair to manage relationships
▪ When managing a relationship, their idea of “fair” may not pay

▪ Grant believes that the ideals of a matcher cannot be ideally
met
▪ Consequently, an individual has a dominant mode that they
interact with depending on the relationship
▪ Sincerity screening- distinguish the genuine
givers from the “takers” and “fakers”
▪ Avoid placing too much emphasis on
How to avoid the

Problem 1- Being

-Generous Tit for Tat- the adaptable giver
-Do not focus on what others are feeling,
instead focus on what they are thinking

Problem 2- Being
too empathetic
-Give potential takers the opportunity to
contribute/remedy the situation and hold
them accountable

forgive a bad one”
▪ Assertiveness and the advocacy

▪ When negotiating think of yourself as
How to avoid the

Problem 3- Being
too timid
an agent advocating for others, such as
a friend, colleague, or family member
▪ Think of who will benefit from your
actions, and what your actions could

Summary
▪ Majority of the world are matchers
▪ But if we all empathize and become a giver the world would be

Reflection & Development Plan
Dec 11, 2017
Overarching Goal: To successfully launch and manage a consulting firm (Eat Up HR) which
provides Human Resource Strategies to start-up and early growth businesses. The firm specializes
in food-based and non-profit businesses.
Introduction
Before my XXXXX, 3 years ago, I had successfully launched the XXXXX, while
working part-time as Ambassador for the non-profit XXXX. As I recovered I began to create a 1year then 5-year vision which aligned my passions (food, entrepreneurship, start-ups,
sustainability) with my guiding principles (see appendices pg.), and career goals. My vision and
strong family encouragement sparked my return to Wayne State University (WSU) after X years.
Returning to WSU all I wanted was to obtain my BA, in Management and continue to graduate
school to study entrepreneurship, specifically triple-bottom-line businesses1. I was happy but
realized I needed to scale it up for my financial stability, growth, and a healthy retirement.
MGT 5700 (Human Resource Management- HRM) was my first class and I loved it;
because I am a people person. I received an A and learned how HRM is changing because of
technology, more data less bureaucracy. It’s the “people” part of the triple-bottom-line business.
According to HR expert Heather M. Heathfield, today’s HRM is a “strategic and comprehensive
approach to managing people, workplace culture, and the environment.” With this in mind I
updated my 1-year and 5-year vision and confidently began Winter semester, MGT 6995.
Imagine my shock when asked “What Are Your Strengths?” and I had no answer. My Reflection
& Development Plan is organized into two parts. Part I “All About Me” will summarize my top 5
talents based on Strengthfinders2.0 Strengths, provide my 5 and10-year career vision, and
1
Businesses which strategies focus equally of People. Profit, and Planet, the triple-bottom-line.

examine four additional assessments introduced in MGT 6995. Part II will outline my current
goals in the areas of personal development, education, and career.
Strengthsfinders2.0
Will my natural talents serve me well in HRM, especially in the current #MeToo
environment? Research into the field indicates workplace cultures across industries are
embedded with sexual and racial harassment because of poor leadership, or more specifically a
failure of top management to empower HR to do what it should be designed to do. My goal is to
counsel startups and early growth businesses on HR functions from the start, thereby building a
stronger foundation for success. According to Strengthsfinders2.0, the updated version of
“Clifton Strengthsfinders” created by Psychologist, Donald O. Clifton, Ph. D my top 5 talents
which are: Futuristic, Maximizer, Learner, Connectedness, Positivity.
As a Futuristic I’m fascinated by the future. I thrive in environments where I will
contribute my ideas about the future. Working with startups is all about the future and laying a
strong foundation. This strength specifically states I “may excel in entrepreneurial or startup
situations.” Furthermore, being a Futuristic equips me to be a “guide or coach” for others.
As a Maximizer, “excellence not average is my measure.” One of my internal mantras is
“don’t hate on my excellence” so I feel this really does fit me. According to Strengthfinders2.0, I
get a thrill in taking something strong and developing it into something superb. I am fascinated
by strengths, my own and others; and I should seek a role in which I help people by coaching,
mentoring, and or teaching.
As a Learner, I love to learn. I’m drawn to the process of learning. I should seek a role
that requires a formal technical competence, like earning professional certifications from the
Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). I will use my professional certifications as a

measurement to ensure my learning need are continuing to be met. I should avoid coming across
as a know-it-all by consistently entering situations/groups with my “student hat on.”
Connectedness is the reason I have always believed “everything happens for a reason.”
Yes, I believe, we are all individuals who make our own decisions, but we are also “still a part of
something larger.” I’ve always believed these feelings came from my spiritual nature. Growing
up I remember my Christian family grounding me in a variety of spiritual principles (positive
affirmations, mediation, charity and giving) more than any one traditional religion. This strength
allows me to help people “see the connections among their talents, their actions, their mission,
and their success.” I should again seek roles where I listen and counsel, I’m especially “adept at
helping other people see connections and purpose in everyday occurrences.”
Positivity is the reason for my optimism. Anyone who know me knows I always look for
the positive. I’m also a realistic and I know bad things happen, but when they do happen I prefer
to focus on what I can learn from what has happened. My positivity energizes me so I “tend to
bring more enthusiasm and energy than most people.” According to my best self-reflections
Professor Shields commented that I “bring positive energy to discussions, projects and other
interpersonal tasks. This positive energy transfers to others and improves everyone’s
performance.”
5, 10 Year Career
In 5 years I will be a successful HR Business Partner, a Senior Certified Professional
(SCP) from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) working for a medium to
large size non-profit. I will have my BA in Management, and my MBA with a concentration in
Human Resource Management (HRM) and Entrepreneurship from Wayne State University. I’ll
be preparing for my Strategic HR Business Partner (sHRBP) certification. My return to the

corporate world was surprisingly comfortable. My curiosity to learn HRM functions and systems
lead the way. As a Learner, “I have a willingness to soak up newness.” I needed the
professional work experience to establish and build credibility for my consulting firm. In
addition, I gained valuable benefits which subsidized the cost of my professional certifications.
My education, professional certifications, and work experience cultivated in the success of my
HR consulting firm (Eat Up HR). It is entering its 3rd successful year with my most popular
training sessions being “HR 101- Get the Gist” and “Handbook Basics- Don’t Get Sued.”
