Deshazo Crane LLC Project Proposal
Describe the Project
In 2016, Deshazo Crane has expanded its reach to include 22 locations. This business
proposal is to open and secure a 23rd location in the state of Michigan. Given the fact that
Deshazo already has current customer base in Michigan, it makes sense to open a smaller branch
and capitalize on the rest of the market that is currently being missed. With customers like AK
Steel Corp and US Steel, currently technicians are sent from the Cincinnati branch for outages
and major breakdowns only. Michigan is a $10MM/year market for the crane industry, and
Deshazo is capturing a small portion of that. The purpose of this business proposal is to prove
what Deshazo could do and what is needed to grow in the market.
Stakeholders and How They Will Benefit
Stakeholders are individuals who have a vested interest in the company’s business,
including employees, customers, or investors. “There are three main categories, or levels, of
stakeholder interest or involvement. Level one includes stakeholders who are involved in the
project and the second level includes those whose interests are affected by work performed or the
finished result. The third level includes individuals, departments or organizations that exert a
degree of influence over the project or project deliverables” (Lohrey, 2017). Each level will
benefit in many ways, including monetarily, educational, and relationships.
Overview of Proposed Project
The mission is to expand business by adding customers and increase revenue by 42%. The
scope is to ensure they stay within their budgets which includes rent, utilities, equipment,
employee compensation. This project takes lots of planning, advertising to draw in customers,
3
research for new real estate, and ensuring the employees have all equipment and tools to perform
the job and respond quickly.
Opening another branch would allow better service to current customers with a shorter
response time, and the ability to offer more services. The need was identified because the
customers that Deshazo have are located far away and they want to keep their existing customer
and add new customers.
Resource Requirements
The process of implementing a new branch location will require the use of resources
already available and new resources. First, a project manager must be identified for the project,
and will “allocate resources among project activities” (Cobb, 2012, p. 159). The most important
resource for the project is the allocation of financial funds but will also need a resource for
recruitment and property acquisition. The person responsible for recruiting the newly opened
positions could be a contracted service or a responsibility of the project manager. The property
acquisition should go using a realtor for finding a location that the company can lease, working
directly with the project manager.
Steps Taken to Assemble, Develop, and Manage
To assemble a team, we need to send a knowledgeable project manager. One who knows
the company policies and standards and is willing to lead a new team to live up to those
standards. They will then develop a team, set the mission and goals, assign roles, and manage
the processes. By effectively managing the team and keeping everyone committed to the
common goals, they will continue to build relationships to ensure the project moves along with
schedule.

Importance of Project Sponsorship and Leadership During Execution
During the execution of any project, it becomes important to have sponsors and leaders
who can assist where needed and being able to adapt to any challenges that may arise during this
process. According to the article Five Critical Roles in Project Management, a project sponsor
“champions the project at the highest level in the company and gets rid of organizational
obstructions” (Five Critical Roles in Project Management, 2016). Additionally, a project sponsor
will delegate tasks to the project manager, who then becomes the driving force behind the
execution. Five Critical Roles in Project Management further elaborates on leadership being
important because a project manager or leader “plans and schedules tasks, oversees day-to-day
execution, and monitors progress until he evaluates performance, brings the project to a close,
and captures the lessons learned” (Five Critical Roles in Project Management, 2016). As such,
both project sponsorship and leadership are vital pieces of the project execution, since they both
contribute to how the project is handled and whether the project is completed on time and
efficiently.

PROJECT OVERVIEW
Project Overview
Missions and Objectives
The projects that I undertook was the creation of a mobile application aimed at improving
work operations of a local fire department and promote the safety of citizens. The mission and
objective of this project were to ensure coordination in the fire department and enhance work
effectiveness to improve outcomes (Larson & Gray, 2017). It also included the facilitation of
data security as well as the elimination of redundant data entry in this organization as well as
enhancing reaction speeds of the employees.
Scope of the Project
The plan aimed to distribute new mobile technology and implement the appropriate
software to ensure project success. The technology included an interface that promotes rapid
communication using instant messaging and video call (Larson & Gray, 2017). It required the
use of satellite communication and GPS to ensure effective communication and tracking of
location in the time of emergency. It also included a chip device to be installed on the back of the
mobile phone, which enhanced communication and ensure practical usage of communication.
Identification of Project Needs
It was necessary to identify various needs related to this particular project and determine
how to ensure that these needs are met (Larson & Gray, 2017). The main problem was the lack
of effective communication in the fire department, which led to the jeopardy of safety as well as
a lack of coordination in activities related to fire fighting. It was necessary to improve the
communication mechanisms within the firefighting unit and therefore ensure better outcomes for

members of the team. Another critical need was the gathering of information at the scene of fires
as this secured better dispensation of assistance in these instances. At the same time, this project
looks to assess the opportunity of mobile communication enhancement to ensure better outcomes
in work teams. Through this, operations of the fire department were enhanced, therefore leading
to better results. The project also aimed to provide the minimizing of contact to typical industry
operation in affected units. Furthermore, it aimed to create an approving and protected
conformity among the fire division and the chosen retailer.
Cost and Funding of the Project
Various aspects were considered in the budget for this project. The project size is also
essential, and the number of people directly involved in the project was 540 individuals. The
budget considers the remuneration of each of these individuals according to their role and pay
scale. The vendors costs needed to be considered, and this included payments for all the
individuals who participated in the provision of materials for use in this project (Kerzner, 2018).
Another cost incurred was that of the software vendor who will be paid according to the input
brought into the organization. The project followed milestones, and there are various deliverables
expected at each of the benchmarks. The government and associated nongovernmental
organizations were responsible for funding the project, and funds will be disbursed under the
supervision of the project manager.
Timeline of the Project
The project was expected to run for two years, with operations being carried out in
phases. At each half year, there was be a review of the project, and this was done to ensure that
various deliverables were realized for the practical project running (Kerzner, 2018). The project
4
PROJECT OVERVIEW
ran from the 1st of August 2013 until the 1st of August in 2016 and was completed successfully
before the expected precise time.
Parties involved and the Roles
There were different parties involved in this project, and each of them had a role to play
in the successful completion of the project. The project sponsor was the original decision maker
of this project and was expected to provide project oversight as well as guidance. The sponsor
was also expected to review and approve of some of the plan fundamentals. The course-plotting
group was accountable for committing department resources and ensuring necessary financial
maintenance and resource allocation strategies.
Furthermore, the committees also provided direction to the project director and assess
plan plots (Harrison & Lock, 2017). The Project Manager had a vital role to play as well, and
this included the management of the project following the project plan. The project manager was
also responsible for handling problem resolution and managing the budget of the program.
Furthermore, he directed team members towards the project objectives and managed the budget
of the program. The project participants had a significant role to play in understanding the
different business processes and acted as a consumer advocate in representing the area.
Furthermore, the assistant was also responsible for ensuring the contribution of work teams and
providing information and recommendation for use in this project. Subject matter experts also
participated in this project, and they had the role of lending expertise and guidance when
required.
Steps to Ensure Project Success
5
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Various measures were taken in this scenario to ensure the success of this specific
project. The initial step included getting a team to buy into the project and ensuring that the
scope of this particular project was identified correctly (Harrison & Lock, 2018). It was also
essential to ensure that the executives sponsoring the project were also actively involved in the
project. Another critical step implemented included the reducing of work in the project, and this
included the careful organization of work-related processes to ensure effective outcomes from
the project. The project was also successful due to the scheduling of regular meetings aimed at
determining the progress of the project. Through this, it was easier to follow up on the project
steps and ensure that quality work was done on every phase of the project.
Measuring Success of the Program
Different aspects were considered in the measuring of success of this particular project.
The scope was a critical aspect, and this included an understanding of the intended result of the
project as well as what was required on completion of the project (Heagney, 2016). It was also
essential to consider the schedule, and this was done in a way that the project covered the
expected time at all stages. Another important measure for the success of this project was the
budget, and this budget was enough for the completion of the project. Team satisfaction was
another necessary measure for the success of the project, and this saw an overall satisfaction
concerning the time the project was completed and the quality of the project.
Importance of Project Management in the Success of this Project
Project management had an integral role to play in the success of this project. Through
project management, the implementation of this project was made easier due to the structuring of
the project and active organization of how the project would be done (Heagney, 2016). Project

management ensured effective cost control, and it was easier to establish a schedule and a plan to
follow. Project management also provided the enforcing of teamwork and effective delegation of
people within the teams. Change management was made more accessible with the use of project
management, and it was easier to integrate work-related processes to ensure maximized
outcomes related to the project. Through project management, knowledge dissemination also
occurred, and this helped to ensure that the project was done according to top quality standards.
