College of DuPage Attention Spam & Depression Discussions Responses I need 100 words for each response which is a total of 200 words. It has to be substantive and constructive responses. 100 words each response:
Student A:
A hypothesis can be defined as a tentative idea or question that is proved by supporting
evidence. According to Bates hypothesis are proposed ideas that gathers information that can
be consistent or inconsistent to help support the hypothesis. If research findings support and
shows consistent findings to the hypothesis the hypothesis is supported. A hypothesis that I
would like to test would be findings on inadequate amount of sleep can affect attention span or
performance.
My hypothesis would state the following:
Attention span can significantly be affected with inadequate amount of sleep. Research suggest
that inadequate sleep can cause a decrease in attention span. The inability to focus can be
caused from lack or sleep which in turn can cause individuals not to focus. Ways in which I
would test this hypothesis is to perform a sleep study for participants and test their attention
span and focus. Sleep studies have shown the importance of sleep and how if adequate sleep is
not taken it can cause serious health and psychological issues as well.
Student B:
According to Crosby & Bates (2015) a hypothesis is a more specific version of a research
question. A hypothesis is a statement that may or may not be true, but it involves a prediction
one way or another. The prediction that is made is a guess on how the outcome will unfold. The
results do not have to support the researcher’s hypothesis it merely needs to prove or disprove
it for the research to be beneficial.
The hypothesis that I would like to propose is on the dual diagnosis of severe depression and
opioid addiction. I predict that those who suffered from severe depression before their opioid
addiction have lower rehabilitation rates that those that suffer from severe depression only
after having become addicted to opioids. I make this prediction based on the evidence that
opioids cause a state of euphoria. I believe that those suffering from depression are seeking out
this type of emotional release before they are ever introduced to opioids. I believe that those
that experience severe depression as a result of addiction and/or the withdrawal will have
higher rehabilitation rates due to the fact that they were not already battling a severe mental
health issue. I also predict that those that have been exposed to trauma and there for
experience PTSD are more likely to fall into the group of individuals that suffered depression
before their addiction.
