UMUC Bacon Institute Network Infrastructure Diagram Summarize the site requirements and/or any challenges (changes to the topology as you detailed in assignments 1 and 2) you are attempting to overcome. You should also provide an updated overall site topology based on your design.
This solution should be comprehensive and the approach should be justified. Configurations of technologies should be written out to help guide the systems administrators with implementation. In some cases, you may find it necessary to implement additional cabling, which can be done by adding to the supplied topology. Any adjustments to the sites’ topology should be documented and supplied with your submission.
Attached assignments 1 and 2 the feedback for the assignments are the following.
Assignment 1: your networking chart all the floors aren’t /24. Only floor 1 & 2 are /24. Floor 3 is /25. Also, you need to explain in more details on Phoneix how it’s going to be a failover. Base off your topology and network chart you only have Phoenix site 2 and the datacenter is split with a hot an cold site in one location?
Assignment 2:Your topology looks good. However, you don’t have any IP addresses assigned to the port of your switches nor do you have any IP address assign to the PCs. Therefore, not ping connectivity is taking place. For each of the PCs you have on each floor must be in the same subnet that you used for your chart. Refer back to that and assign the IPs accordingly. Network Infrastructure Design

Part 2: Design the Network Infrastructure
Create a network drawing using Visio or Draw.io, specific to this organization listing the
network’s topology.
In your diagram, include any necessary hardware. The drawing should include enough detail to
show the interconnections of the topology. The viewer should be able to understand the Bacon
Enterprises network environment.
All devices require hostnames and should use the following naming conventions:
•
Routers: Rx; where x is the site number
•
Switches: Sx; where x is the site number
•
Include necessary details for high availability.
•
Any external source that is consulted should be cited properly.
When you are finished, save the diagram as a PDF and submit it to the Assignment folder along
with this template.
Note: You will need to use this diagram in Project 3, so save the source file.

Orlando site Challenges and Implementation
Site Details and Challenges
The task of coming up with a proper network design most of the time requires critical thinking.
Devices interconnection affects how the entire network functions. In this era, network components
are arranged in a way that there is no or minimal packet loss. The arrangement of these network
devices is known as network topology. Mostly used topologies used are ring topology, star
topology, bus topology among others. The choice of the topology depends on one’s needs as each
topology has its own benefits. With reference to the Orlando site, it is obvious that there are more
than 700 devices that can be connected to the network each having its own IP address. This is a
quite large number and therefore a better choice of topology must be made. The challenge with
this site is that the switch is a central point of failure.
Site Solution(s) and Technologies
The best approach to this is by using several ethernet switches with uplinks connected to a power
switch. For example, this can be done by connecting a gigabit switch with an SFP + uplink (10G)
from a central switch (10GbE). Alternatively, a powerful gigabit switch can be connected to each
edge switch. This type of interconnection will ensure that there are no loops that occur within the
network. To do away with redundancy, it is a good practice to triple each of the links to the core
switch.

Phoenix site Challenges and Implementation
Site Details and Challenges
The main challenge to this site is the choice of the routing protocol. A clear decision on which
protocol to be used must be made to avoid cases of failure later. Although many routing protocols
are used in networking today, there are some which are more advantageous than others.
Site Solution(s) and Technologies
To determine the best approach (routing protocol) to be used, we must evaluate the advantages of
each over the other. Below is the comparison.
Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol l (EIGRP)
Advantages
i.
Very fast convergence-in this protocol, each router knows about its neighbor i.e. stores all
the routing tables for the neighboring routers.
ii.
Flexibility-it can support partial updates therefore it is flexible as compared to others.
iii.
Variable subnet mask- the variable length support of the subnet mask makes this protocol
unique as it gives a summary of the network.
iv.
EIGRP supports a range of network protocols
Open Shortest Path First (OSPF)
NETWORK DESIGN
This is a routing protocol for IP networks.
Advantages
i.
Supports variable length subnet mask
ii.
The structure of this routing protocol is hierarchical.
iii.
If any changes are made, the OSPF only send the changed tables.
With this comparison, it is obvious that the EIGRP is a bit more advantageous over the OSPF.
therefore, the best routing protocol for this site would be EIGRP.

Site Details and Challenges
Security is a key concern in networks today. When setting up a network, you should think of how
to make it secure than anything else. Network administrators meet hacker’s day after the other
trying to penetrate their network security. To secure network, some components must be placed
before or after others to ensure that hackers fail in the quest for access.
Site Solution(s) and Technologies
To solve the issue of security in this site, it would be better to place a firewall before and after
the main router. This will ensure that all the incoming connections from the outside world are
secure. In this manner, cases of attacks and losses will be minimized.
