The assignment will include a report on two different building or monuments on or near the National Mall.There are many smaller monuments that may not be listed on some of the more popular web site.Since this is a geology class, try to find buildings or monuments that have some information on the geology of the building stone.When you have identified two monuments that you would like to report on,

please send them to me to get final approval before beginning your research and

write-up.

Some of the questions you should try to answer for each monument you choose

include the following:

a) Description of the building/monument

b) Dates of construction

c) Building material used

Rock name

Description (igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary, etc)

Source location

Geologic history

d) Three legitimate sources (scientific journals, magazines, government

publications, etc)

The final paper should be 3-5 pages long, double spaced, 12 point font (times, cambria, Calibri, etc). Any pictures or diagrams included in the report should be appended at the end of the report and not included in the final page count.
