To complete this project, students will answer a series of interview questions that require
mastery of course material and demonstrate the knowledge gained by completing the Focused
Research Project. These questions include:
● Broadly, is there a need for schools share the responsibility of educating young children
with the child’s home and/or community?
● What does effective collaboration and communication between the school and the
home and/or community look like?
● How can we engage families in schools and/or create a welcoming school climate?
● What has been an area you have focused on related to collaboration between schools
and the young child’s home/community? [This is the topic you chose for the Focused
Research Project]
● And what is the research saying about this topic/issue? [This should reference at least
one research article you used in the Focus Research Project]
● I read an Issue Brief that you wrote which raised the question about the ethical
responsibilities that schools have to address [your topic]. Do you think schools have an
ethical responsibility to collaborate with the home and/or community? Why? [Your
answer here should answer the question both broadly, and specific to your topic/issue]
● What is your own personal plan, or the next steps you will take, for improving relations
between your school and the home and community you serve?

To fully accomplish this teaching and learning requirement, the following expectations must be
met:
● Material presented in the course’s teaching and learning requirements is referenced at
least three times during the interview.
● At least one research article is referenced to explain or describe the expert’s topic/issue.
● All seven questions are clearly identified and the expert’s answers to the questions
demonstrate knowledge of the subject matter.
