• How do you collaborate with others eg parents/ carers, school counsellor, specialist services, medical world to make sure you are providing the appropriate support strategies for students?

• How do you adapt curriculum and teaching strategies for your students and legislative requirements – workplace safety, child protection, privacy, duty of care, anti- discrimination?

• What particular legislation do we need to comply with which will influence our practices when supporting students who with special needs e.g. privacy, duty of care, anti-discrimination?

Assessment 2: Personalised Planning and Differentiation

This task requires the development of appropriate teaching strategies that are reflective of curriculum and policies that support students with additional needs (personalised planning). The task relates to adjusting and developing lesson content, tasks, resources (including the use of ICT) and classroom behaviour support strategies to enhance the learning opportunities for the individual needs of identified students. This task will incorporate your knowledge of required legislation and teaching strategies that assist schools to become safe and supportive environments for all students.
1. For this task you are to select a student who has significant specific learning need/s. Outline the characteristics, strengths and challenges for the identified student and for the others in the class/setting. Support with research.
2. Outline and discuss three key focus areas that include ideas of social & emotional issues, communication and academic needs and support your focus with research.
3. Write two specific (SMART) goals/outcomes for each key focus area.
4. Using positive, strengths based land inclusive language, identify a range of strategies, adjustments (differentiation) to
content, tasks, resources (including use of ICT, also assistive technology where appropriate) and classroom behaviour
support strategies. Support with research.
5. Include how you will assess the effectiveness of the strategies to reach the goals/outcomes.
6. Briefly evaluate how the plan might succeed in practice and possible recommendations for future directions for the student.
7. Incorporate clear connections with relevant legislation/frameworks documents.
8. Support your work with research and references relevant to the Australian context using APA referencing.
