A well thought out, and written paper will have a well structured introduction, hypothesis (or issue you wish to address and how you plan to address or prove your theory). The paper should also contain research and evidence that can support your claim. Your observations must be well thought out and backed up by quantitative data (research and sources) and you must present an overall conclusion that includes your overall thoughts and observations based on the data you researched. You can include interviews – but make sure you include your interviews as part of your bibliography.

An Example of a Research Topic: Theory /Hyphothesis- Chain restaurants in the El Paso area cater their advertisements and design toward the Hispanic Audience in El Paso by having actors on the screen speak with a Hispanic accent or have actors that look Hispanic.

In my topic I plan to research the following key components – the population of the El Paso region; and how it compares to the rest of the El Paso population and what that comprises of? Collect data that shows how many Hispanics enter a specific chain restaurant establishment and their ethnicity. Observe whether most people who are hired speak and/or understand Spanish. Analyze my observations and report my results and research.

Another Example of a Research Topic: Theory/Hyphothesis: News Channel 7-KVIA focuses their reporting more on the Las Cruces area than in El Paso. For my topic I plan to watch the news at different times during the day – specifically News Channel 7. I will watch it for 1 week and report my observations. I will tally how many reports/stories are done in the newscast in total; and from there tally which stories are from Las Cruces. I also plan on speaking or emailing the news director at News Channel 7 to ask them what leans them more toward Las Cruces (if this is the case) over El Paso. I plan on using statistics from the PEW research Center as well.

Another Example of a Research Topic: Theory/Hypothesis: Movies about El Paso, Texas, do not depict El Pasoans, despite that they are shot in the border. It can be hypothesized that the few films that depict El Paso and its community tend to stereotype its community as violent and associated with drugs and other illegal activities. I will analyze a few films shot in El Paso, including Manos:The Hands of Fate, Committed, The Day After Tomorrow, Traffic and Sicario.  I will analyze the plots and characters. I will provide crime statistic data to prove that El Paso is not as violent as depicted in these movies. I will provide examples with research and interviews with some El Pasoans of the impact has caused in El Paso the negative depiction of this border  in movies.

ilms today have been shot almost anywhere, including El Paso, Texas. Although movies that are shot in El Paso aren’t particularly about El Paso, the media tends to express the city to be dangerous.
