Inventor Profile: Eugene Stoner
Eugene Stoner, of Gosport, IN, has been regarded by some military historians as “one of the most successful military firearms designers of the 20th century”1. The AR-10, which preceded the M16, only scratches the surface of his contributions to firearms design.

Before gaining attention as a designer of world-changing firearms, Eugene Stoner served in the Marine Corps as an Aviation Ordnanceman and went on to engineer in the aircraft industry.

Reflect: Consider what firearms designs, besides the AR-10, Mr. Eugene Stoner contributed to the canon of military and civilian weapons.
